How Do You Anchor Screws In Cracked Drywall?

0

Anchoring screws in drywall will allow you to hang artwork or small shelves from your wall, without fear of the items falling, in areas not near wall studs. Drywall anchors, or expansion anchors, are small plastic receptacles that are driven into the drywall and that will expand as the screw is put into it. This then anchors the screw to a larger surface area, giving the connection additional strength. Using anchors is especially important if the drywall itself is compromised by cracks. Repair the cracked drywall with a common drywall patch. Spread the patch material over the crack with a small putty knife and allow two to three hours for drying. If the crack is larger than 1/8 inch, use mesh plaster tape to cover the crack before patching as this will add strength to the repair. Go over the dry patch with 220-grit sandpaper. Locate a stud near the area where you want to insert a drywall screw. Studs are generally found every 12 to 16 inches along a wall. Either tap on the wall or use
