Personalizing your own helmet with airbrush paint and stencils is a great way to add some color and uniqueness to your gear. Depending upon the style and pattern of the airbrushing you want to do, it may require some precise lines and stencils, time and patience to create your airbrushed helmet. Set up your airbrushing area with the canvas material or newspaper so other things around you do not get painted. Remove the padding and screws from the helmet, and cover the parts and places of the helmet with painter’s tape that you do not want paint to get on. Remove the original coat of clear varnish from the helmet. You do not have to remove any of the paint if there is a prior design or color on it, but you do need to remove the varnish. Take the sandpaper and dip it in water. Gently rub in circles around the entire helmet. Do this until there is a dull appearance to the helmet, which means the varnish has been rubbed off.
