Adjusting vertical blinds for windows is a simple if somewhat time-consuming task. If your blinds are too long they will drag on the floor and either bend or fall off. A window blind is typically made from slats of fabric, wood, plastic or even metal, and to adjust the length you’ll need to trim each individual slat. Step 1 Remove the individual slats from the window blind housing. You may be able to simply push up on the slats and slide them to the side to remove them. If your blinds have a locking mechanism, use a screwdriver and push between the blind and the mechanism to release each slat. Step 2 Measure from the top of the window blinds down to the spot you want the vertical blinds to hang with a tape measure. Then measure each slat for the same distance and mark the spot lightly with a pencil. Re-measure to ensure accuracy.
