How Do You Add Wheat Straw To Garden Soil?
Applying wheat straw to your garden helps to prevent weeds from sprouting and creates a cleaner-looking garden. Gardeners choose wheat straw over other options to control weeds, since it contains little to no weed seeds to begin with. You can use wheat straw as a mulching agent or to improve the soil in your garden and flower beds. Pull the weeds from the soil of the planting site. Remove the entire root system of each weed to keep more weeds from sprouting. Spread the wheat straw with your hands over the entire planting site. Wear gardening gloves to protect your hands, and cover the soil with 1/2 inch of straw. Mix the wheat straw into the soil with a hand plow. As the blade of the plow digs downward, it forces the straw down with it. Mix the wheat straw into the soil at least five inches deep. Continue the process until the straw you’ve spread on the entire planting site is thoroughly mixed. Water the soil and plant your seeds.
