How Do You Add Frequency To A Radio Shack Scanner?
Radio Shack scanners are simple to use straight out of thebox because they have pre-programmed banks of frequencies. The manufacturer has added one-touch buttons that let you search by sets of frequencies called service banks. For example, pressing the button with the ship icon will search systematically through the marine frequencies and stop when it finds activity. However, you can also add a known frequency directly and store it into memory. Press the button marked “PGM.” The text “PGM” will appear on the display. Choose a channel to program. The scanners sometimes have 200 choices. It doesn’t matter which one you choose but you might want to be consistent in your numbering conventions. For example, choose 1 to 50 for local public safety and 51 to100 for amateur radio repeaters in your area. Press “PGM” again. Use the numerical keypad to enter the frequency you wish to add. Press the period button. Press “ENT” to add the frequency to the scanner.
