The Dell Dimension 9100 computer uses SATA hard drives, the latest hard drive connection standard, which offers higher data transfer speeds over the older standard, IDE. If you want to install a second SATA hard drive in your Dimension 9100, you can do so easily with just a screwdriver, hard drive and data cable. Turn off your computer and remove all cables from the back of it. Lay the computer down on its left side (as viewed from the front of the computer) and locate the cover release latch on the back of the computer, near the right side of the computer. Press this latch to release the right side door of the computer, which can then be lifted off. Locate the primary hard drive in the front of the computer, and then locate a free drive bay underneath the primary drive.
