How Do You Achieve Cuban Motion While Dancing The Rumba?

0

Cuban motion is important in all the Latin dances, but none more so than the Rumba (or Rhumba). The slow tempo of the Rumba lets the Cuban motion seem sensuous, which is why the Rumba is often referred to as the “dance of love.” Stand with your feet slightly apart. Hold your arms up so your hands are above your head. Bend your left knee and let your weight settle onto your right leg. Allow your right hip to move backward slightly. Contract the muscles along your right side, pulling your right shoulder downward. Relax and repeat on the other side. Continue until your Cuban motion feels natural and smooth. Add steps to your Cuban motion. Take a step forward on your right foot, then a step with your left foot. Step back on your right foot and then your left foot. Bring your arms down, but keep your hands above your waist. Allow your left shoulder to move forward as your right foot moves in addition to bringing your right shoulder down as in Step 3.
