How Do You Accurately Measure Body Fat?
Measuring body fat is a way of accurately determining correct body composition. Beneath the upper layers of skin lies the subcutaneous fat layer. The body’s total fat percentage can be determined by measuring folds of skin from different parts of the body using an instrument called a fat caliper. To successfully measure the body’s total fat content, only four overall measurements are required. Regular body fat measurements should be taken at the same time of day, preferably in the morning. When measuring for body fat percentage, all measurements should be taken from the right side of the body. The first measurement is taken from the upper arm from the tricep. The arm should be hanging down and relaxed, parallel with the body. Pinch the skin with the thumb and finger to include all of the thickness that you can get between the fingers.
