How do you access microsoft word file history?

On Windows 7 I click Start and along with other frequently used programs, I have Word with an arrow. If go to that I can see all the documents opened with Word. As far as I know Windows XP and Vista don’t have the same feature, but they have something similar. You can see the date the file was made if you right click it and go to properties and then “details.” As for proving the document had certain information, I think you’d need the document still saved on the computer as I presume you’d need to open it. MS Word comes with some document recovery thing if you’ve lost or corrupted the original file but I’m not sure how it would work.
