How do we know the enhanced greenhouse effect is the cause of global warming?
I think the single strongest piece of evidence supporting man-made global warming is the cooling of the upper atmosphere. There is no question that the planet is warming, and something has to be causing it. It’s not the Earth’s orbital cycles (we should be in a very stable and gradual cooling period of those cycles right now), and it’s not solar output, which not only hasn’t increased in 30-70 years, but would also cause the upper atmosphere to warm. Greenhouse gases essentially trap heat in the lower atmosphere, which scientists predict should cause the upper atmosphere to cool. And that’s exactly what’s happening.
