Our schools should be safe havens for our students. They should be free of violence and criminal activity. And while a smaller percentage of students are victims of a serious violent crime at school than away from school any instance of crime or violence at school not only affects the individuals involved but serves to disrupt the educational process and affect bystanders, the school itself, and the surrounding community To deter such criminal activity and to help keep students safe many schools have installed or are looking into installing security cameras on their campuses. School officials understand that it is essential to know who is entering campus and who is leaving at all times; likewise schools want to cut down on vandalism and theft.
