How do we establish a point of reference to gauge the net benefits of an offset project?
A baseline is the net greenhouse gas emissions or carbon sequestration on a project’s lands or facilities that would have occurred in the absence of the project. Under many accounting protocols, the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions below the baseline or the increase in sequestration above the baseline count as credited allowances.
