How do we determine Stage III or Stage IV pressure ulcers for the purposes of this rule?
The regulations do not specify a standard to be applied, however, whatever standard a facility uses, it should be widely recognized and accepted. For example, the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) staging terms and definitions for assessment of pressure ulcers could be used to determine admission and discharge criteria for this rule.
