How do we deduct Home Improvements on Form 1040?

Easily…..you don’t. Home improvements are not, and have never been, tax deductible.

Unless your home improvement qualifies for the energy credit, any home improvement becomes part of the basis (cost of the house) and can not be deducted until you sell the house. And the energy credit is limited to new windows, door or certain types of roofs. Best to see a tax professional.
