How do we cope with acclimatisation?
Anyone going to higher elevations is, at some stage, likely to encounter minor altitude symptoms which are indicative of the decreased oxygen levels in the atmosphere, but these symptoms are generally very transient and are not something which you need worry about unduly. All of our trek itineraries are carefully planned to allow for gradual ascent, which promotes proper acclimatisation to higher altitudes. So that we benefit from our gains in fitness and acclimatisation we will often practise the policy of walking high and sleeping low where we will walk above our planned stop and return to our base to sleep. This has proven to be a great aid to acclimatisation. Our trek leaders will always be on hand to give expert advice and ensure that each day you have sufficient fluids to maintain the adequate hydration, which is of critical importance. There is no way of predicting who will suffer from altitude, but for the vast majority the slow ascent to height of our walks will produce minima
