How do we calibrate the TLC timing trims in the Dual Sync Mode?
Calibration of the TLC Dual Sync Mode is not trivial. Since we are learning more about this mode on a daily basis, this section may change. The fundamental rule here is the Sync Trim or *SYNC of the Film A determines the 3:2 as it is down converted. This may be said another way. The *SYNC of the telecine must be adjusted to line the film frame of interest to the 6 Hz pulse, which in turn, will be converted to a SMPTE A frame later in time. If you trust the calibration of the down converter, adjust the *SYNC of Film A for the intended film frame to be a SMPTE A Frame. Do not try to make this line up with the timecode at this time. Through past experience with this mode, we have determined that it is necessary to define an offset for the 24 frame recorders as well as the telecine. This is necessary to line the edit with the 6Hz pulse and will subsequently improve the calibration of the 30 frame material. With all 24 Frame recorders we should set a *SYNC trim of –1 and a *IN and *OUT edit
