Theoretically, field STC and lab STC should be the same. Typical causes for field STC to be lower than lab STC is due to flanking losses from adjoining floors, ceilings and other walls and/or leaks through the wall caused by discontinuities in the wall such as electrical outlets. Poor construction practises can lead to field STC ratings to be up to 20 points lower than lab STC ratings.
