How do visually impaired or blind people get from one place to another?
Visually impaired or blind persons can rely on tools such as a white cane, guide dog, telescope, or be guided by a sighted person. They can utilize reference points on routes traveled regularly, or use tactile maps, computer mapping software or Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Blind and visually impaired persons also learn to rely on alternate senses, such as their hearing, touch or sense of smell to assist in identifying their surroundings.
