Immigration officers at local CIC offices interview potential victims, and decide upon the eligibility of the victims, for the permit. The immigration officer can issue the TRP, if he believes that the person is a victim of trafficking. After issuing the TRP, the officer helps the victim in making the first contact with the appropriate groups, which includes the embassy of their home country, provincial or municipal agencies. It also helps the person to contact non-governmental organizations that assist victims of trafficking. Immigration officers also assist the victim get access to health benefits. Individuals who receive the temporary permit can apply for a work permit at the same time. They will need to fill out the necessary paperwork and give it to the immigration officer for processing.
