How do victims obtain crash reports, autopsy reports, and driving records?
If the victim is a family member, contacting the coroner that conducted the autopsy will generally result in the release of those records. If the victim is not a family member, or for anyone to obtain the drunk drivers driving record, they need to fill out a Confidential Criminal Justice Information form that they can obtain from the RECORDS division at the Law and Justice Center in Bozeman. They would need to state the reason why they are requesting this information and a judge needs to approve the request. (It is important to remember this is a legal process that may take some time, however it is usually a fairly smooth process for victims to obtain this information.)
