How do Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians work together?
Veterinary Technicians are trained to support the work of Veterinarians. Rebecca Rose, a Certified Veterinary Technician in Colorado, says a Technician always works under the doctor’s direct supervision: “it’s a very intimate relationship between the Veterinarian and the Technician.” The Technician will help restrain an animal, if need be, during an examination. Should surgery be called for, he or she will provide assistance and, then afterwards, help with follow up care and treatment. That includes such tasks as monitoring patients in recovery, doing blood work and other laboratory analyses, administering medicines, and consulting with owners about nutritional issues and well-care. At every turn, the Technician works hand in hand with the Veterinarian. – Dr.
