Basically you combine flour with sugar and butter to form the crumble mixture, but there are endless variations with the different flours and sugars available etc. A good one for Apple crumble is; Sift 50g plain white flour and 30g plain wholemeal flour together in a bowl, stir in 75g soft brown sugar and 50g ground almonds, now just rub in 75g butter with you fingertips to make a loose crumbly mixture. Scatter the mixture over the filling, but do not pack it down, it’s nicer if some of the juices can bubble through the topping. Crumble mix is quite forgiving, so you could use all plain flour if you want and the quantities don’t have to be too precise. Enjoy!
