How do u get a mistreated dog to trust u?
If this dog has been severely mistreated, the biggest gift you can give him is time. Do not expect a transformation just because you know that you are not going to hurt him. He has to come to that understanding. When we are training baby foals, the first thing that we do is just hang out. We might take a chair and sit in a pasture or stall with them. We let them get curious enough to want to be with us. You have to create a situation for this dog where he wants to be with you. Give him someplace to go where he feels safe. It might be his bed or it might be a kennel that he can come in and out as he chooses. Of course, put a soft bed in it. Then sit with him. Do not try to play with him at all. You might toss some treats on the floor and let him have them, completely without touching him. Once he starts to enjoy those treats, he will start looking to you for more.
