How do Trees Grow in Winter?
Trees do survive and grow slowly through the winter. They do this in different ways. Some trees called deciduous trees shed their leaves every winter to avoid freezing and losing too much water. Other trees which have needle-like leaves, called conifers, keep most of their leaves all year long. They are also referred to as the evergreens because they stay green all their lives their leaves do not change color. Because the evergreen leaves/needles are thin and and have a protective coating they do not freeze or loose water allowing the tree to stay alive and grow slowly during the winter. That’s why Trees are My Friends!
