How do trees effect soil, temperature, wind and moisture. What do they do to effect them?
Trees effect soil by – If I was to plant a tree where there was no tree before, there would be extra water absorbed out of the soil… this interfers with the clay fraction of the soil… clay expands and contracts when wetting and drying and alterations in average water content can cause overall movement (not good near housing foundations) Trees will usualy efect housing foundations in this way by causing the soil around the foundations to shrink as apposed to root interferance. Temperature – In cities all that concrete reflects sun light.. we get radiation from the sun from all directions even reflected from the man made floor – by offering shade and absorbing this excess ”bouncing” sun light, the area is generally cooled down. Wind – well, a canopy full of leaves is going to act as a wind break is it not. Moisture – hmmm, tricky… depends on what the conditions are, what trees you have planted etc because could swing either way – trees loose a lot of water through their leaves th
