How do tree rings form? And how can they be used to determine weather history?

You have two types of wood…summerwood and springwood…..during the summer the wood’s cells are thinner, and thus produce a “ring” of cells that are thinner than the ones before and after it…giving it the appearance of a ring. Trees where it is tropical yearround (like Costra Rica) do not have rings since the seasons do not change. You can tell a lot about a tree based on their rings. For instance, if there is a fire, you’ll see scars. If there was a drought, the rings will be small and uneven. If there was a nice rain, the rings will be widely spaced.
