How do trades occur before the market open?
Trades can be reported before the market opens for a number of reasons. It may be that an exchange traded option has been exercised. For larger sized trades that occur, these are typically off market institutional transactions reported on to market. These trades facilitate the change of ownership in large holdings of securities without having a direct impact on market participants.
