How do Totally Multilingual domain names work?
Totally multilingual domain names operate on exactly the same technical principles and protocols as English character domains. Put simply, an end user types an Internet Address using multilingual characters. For example, if a Chinese user wanted to visit http://yahoo.com, they would type , provided yahoo.com is registered in the Chinese equivalent. The domain name then resolves to an IP address and displays the web page in exactly the same way as an English domain name would. The technology that allows this to happen is called IDNS (Internationalised Domain Name System).
