Which is more unusual and why? The architectural differences between the citadel of Mycenae and the palace complex at Knossos are more than just physical. They also reflect differences in the two societies and cultures. The palace complex at Knossos is not arranged in any particular order. It forms a general squarish shape, but there seems too many different entrances to the building. Besides the central court in the middle, there seems to be no central hallways or specific arrangement of throne rooms or residential quarters. The only place that seems as if it enjoys a specific purpose is the group of rooms along the left side that stored grain and other food, a reflection of the importance of trade in Minoan society. By contrast, the citadel at Mycenae is arranged in a long vertical plane, with essentially only two ways to enter.
