How do they celebrate the holidays in Israel now Oct 14 for the next couple of days?
The holiday of succot started Monday night the 14th of October. It is a biblical holiday that most Israelis celebrate in some kind of tradition or another. It comes from when Moses was wandering in the desert and they had to live in tent like houses. Many build a “succa” and have their meals there for the week. Succot is also the summer/fall harvest. Most Israelis celebrate the week going to different festivals throughout the country. Many travel abroad or stay in hotels and guest houses in the tourist areas. Most businesses work as a normal day during the Hol Maoed (the non holidays between the beginning and end of Succot. some though work only half days. Its generally a fun holiday where we enjoy whats left of the summer heat before it starts to get cool. Its also the time where the rainy season starts to show its head. To really enjoy Succot I recommend going somewhere up north to one of the many festivals that are going on now. Lists of those festivals can be found through google.
