How do the U.S. Trustee and panel trustee receive copies of the petition?
Some courts continue to require the filer to provide a paper copy of the petition for the trustees. It is the court s decision to print copies of the petition for electronically filed cases. However, the CM/ECF software has been modified to provide the option to automatically add the U.S. Trustee as a party to a bankruptcy case when it is opened, which will allow for the U.S. Trustee to receive electronic notice of the documents filed in a bankruptcy case via e-mail. The e-mail notification will contain hyperlinks to the petition, other pleadings and the docket sheet. It is then the U.S. Trustee s option to print these documents in their own offices. Panel trustees receive an e-mail notification upon assignment and can also access the petition via the hyperlink and through standard CM/ECF reports.
