How do the structure of certain cells (in animals and plants) make them specialised?
There are a large number of examples of how cells specialised structure make them ideal for the role they play: Red blood cell – no cellular organelles to give more space for O2 carriage as well as a concave shape which gives high surface area for a faster rate of diffusion. Intestinal epethilial cells – structure has microvili which increases surface area for efficient nutrient uptake.
