How do the stock pickups compare against the Fender 62 P-bass pickups?

Tagged As: Fender P Bass Pickups Question: have a 97 Fender Precision. It’s got the stock pickups which I believe are called the Fender Vintage P-bass pickups. Perhaps this is just a fancy name for their stock pickup? Anyway, I am looking for a richer, deeper sound and am thinking of replacing the pickups with the Fender Original ’62 pickups. Answer: I have a 62 reissue on my Ebay Fender copy bass (named because I assembled it from cheap parts from Ebay) and to me it doesn’t sound any better or worse than stock pickups. Then again, I’m not a believer in using pickups to make tone changes because no matter what pickups I use, the basses I have always sound the same to me. If you really want a deeper tone, get a pickup with an active tone control and boost the bass response.
