How do the Self-Defense classes compare to the Kempo training?
Our Self-Defense programs are short, finite courses in practical self-defense. Utilizing the core ideas learned from Kempo, we take gross-motor movements and apply them to key, or master, moves. This simplified approach allows for the utilization of a few simple moves to deal with a large volume of situations. Most of our programs range from 2 to 12 hour courses that discuss basic awareness, weapon and target identification and simple methods of application. In contrast, Kempo deals with the development of fine motor skills through repetition and countless hours of training to develop a mental capacity to handle more effectively a wide variety of situations. If you are interested in learning basic skills for self-defense but don’t have a lot of time to invest, the Self-Defense program is a perfect option. Additionally, it’s movements translate well into full training in the Kempo program, so if you enjoy the atmosphere and would like to learn the formal art, we extend special discounts
