How do the satellites track and predict weather?
Answer Dear Karen: The world meteorological community maintains and shares most satellite data around the world. Here is a brief list of all satellites that are used in weather foreasting: GOES 12: U.S. maintained satellite in geosynchronous orbit over the equator and along 75 degrees west longitude. This satellite gives coverage over the U.S. east to the eastern Atlantic. It is normally called GOES EAST. GOES 10: U.S. maintained satellite in geosynchronous orbit over the equator and along 135 west longitude. This satellite gives coverage over the U.S. west to near the dateline along 180 degrees west longitude. This satellite is normally called GOES WEST. METEOSAT 7: European countries maintain this geosynchronous satellite in orbit over the equator and along 0 degrees longitude. This satellite gives coverage from the central Atlantic eastward to the Indian Ocean. GMS: Japanese run geosynchronous satellite in orbit over the equater and giving coverage from the Indian Ocean to about the
