How do the recent organisational changes help to make the structure of the CJS more coherent?
The changes have simplified and strengthened the machinery of the Criminal Justice System. The Prime Minister has established a CJS Cabinet Committee, chaired by the Home Secretary, to oversee delivery of the Government’s policies for the management and reform of the Criminal Justice System. This is supported by the National Criminal Justice Board, which includes ministers and officials from the Home Office, Attorney General’s Office and the Department for Constitutional Affairs, representatives of all the criminal justice agencies, the police authorities and the judiciary. The 42 Local Criminal Justice Boards report to the National Criminal Justice Board. This provides CJS stakeholders with a structure that is clear and easily understood.
