How do the parties choose delegates to the national conventions?

Very carefully. The process of awarding delegates to candidates is complicated enough. But the process to choose actual people to serve as delegates is equally complicated. Republicans will gather at county conventions March 15 where they will elect delegates to the district conventions, which are April 19. There they’ll elect delegates to state convention, which is May 16-17 in Columbus. National delegates get elected at the state convention. Democrats will meet first in congressional district caucus meetings April 19 and will elect delegates to the Democratic State Committee meeting May 24.
