How do the misfire rules work exactly?
It works like this: • Roll the attack. • If the roll is bad enough to result in a critical miss (10 more than skill for skill 6 or less, 17 for skill 15 or less, 18 for skill 16+), roll on the Critical Miss Table. • If the roll is equal to or greater than the weapon’s Malf., you get a malfunction – use the relevant tables, immediate action rules, etc. • If *both* of the above are true, the malfunction takes priority over the critical miss, and only the malfunction takes place. Example 1: I have skill 16 and a weapon with Malf. 16. If I roll a 17, it’s a normal miss but a malfunction. An 18 is both a critical miss and a malfunction – so I just have the malfunction (it takes priority). Example 2: I have skill 5 and a weapon with Malf. 16. If I roll a 15, it’s a critical miss but not a malfunction. A 16+ is both a critical miss and a malfunction – so I just have the malfunction. Source: Dr.
