How do the joint degree programs work?

The joint degree programs are really concurrent degree programs. However, there is a reduction in the number of credits required for graduation from each program (65 credits at Fuqua for joint degree students; 79 credits for regular MBA students). As a result, you will have fewer elective choices in each program, but will take more courses overall and receive two separate degrees. Note: Because it is a joint venture, you cannot receive one degree without receiving the other. Should a student fail to complete the requirements for the partner program, they can not receive their degree from Fuqua until they have 1) completed the requirements for graduation from the joint degree program, or 2) completed the normal Fuqua requirements for graduation.

A. To apply for a joint degree program you must apply to both of the relevant schools (for the JD/MBA, the Law School and the Goizueta Business School; for the JD/M.Div. or JD/MTS, the Law School and the Candler School of Theology; for the JD/Ph.D. in Religion or the JD/MA in Judaic Studies, the Law School and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences; and for the JD/MPH, the Law School and the Rollins School of Health). The schools have separate admission procedures, so you must apply separately to each school, and be accepted by each. You will then decide which school you want to start in, and notify the schools. If you choose law for the first year, you will do your first year of the alternate school in year two. In the subsequent years you will take classes at both schools. You may also apply for a joint degree program during your first year of law school.

Through the integration of the curricula of the two schools, enrolled students are able to earn degrees in an accelerated program, instead of the time normally required when completing the degrees seperately. Georgetown Law has designed these programs to allow students to earn two degrees in a condensed time frame by offering reciprocal credit for coursework. (Completion time varies by program and whether the student is attending part-time or full-time.
