How do the HemCon&reg Bandage and ChitoFlex work?

0

The HemCon&reg Bandage and ChitoFlex are fabricated from multiple thin layers of chitosan, a naturally occurring, biocompatible polysaccharide derived from the exoskeleton of artic shrimp. The HemCon&reg Bandage is thicker and comes in 4″x4″, 2″x4″, and 2″x2″ sizes. ChitoFlex is a thin flexible 3″x28″ ribbon. The chitosan in the dressings has a positive charge, and attracts red blood cells, which have a negative charge. The red blood cells create a seal over the wound as they are drawn into the dressing and stabilize the wound surface.
