How do the gods in Gilgamesh compare to the gods in the two creation stories?
• The Epic of Gilgamesh • They have human characteristics. They seem to quarrel as friends would, and sometimes stab each other in the back. They are not omnipotent, or omniscient like God appears to be in the 1st creation story (p. 66). • They are bureaucratic, working together, each with individual duties and responsibilities. • They show fear. • The Catholic Study Bible • The First Creation Story • The God in the first creation story is omniscient, remote, show total control and his transcendence over the world. (Genesis 1:3) • This is a total contradiction from the gods portrayed in the epic of Gilgamesh. The God from the Catholic Bible shows no fear, it is evident that he is the only one in total control of all events that occur on his earth. • The Second Creation Story • In this version of the creation story, God takes on more human characteristics, such that the reader can see him walking through the Garden of Eden. He creates with his hands, out of the earth and clay. The text
