HOW DO THE DISTRICT’S PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS SUPPORT GATE?
District-wide professional development is constructed with the intent of meeting the needs of all students, including those who are GATE identified. The District strives to provide professional development that includes workshops and coaching experiences. The current District professional development program aims to provide teachers with opportunities to develop their skills in differentiating instruction/curriculum for all learners, including GATE students. Most recently, the District’s elementary focus has been in the areas of math and writing. In the domain of writing, at the elementary and middle school levels teachers are receiving professional development in the Writers Workshop model of writing instruction. The Writer’s Workshop model is known for providing students with highly developed language skills the opportunity to stretch the complexity and richness of their written expression.
