How do the costs of club flying compare with area rentals?
If you fly only three hours a month — one hour in each plane — you’ll come out ahead compared to renting. Your savings start to multiply the more you fly. And, as mentioned previously, you pay no minimum hourly time for cross-country trips. Compare your club costs to some of the rental rates available locally (these prices are current as of March 2005): Colorado Contrails rents 172s for $95/hr and up The Pilot Center rents 172s for $88/hr and up (w/ $20 monthly dues) Platte Valley Flight Center rents a Cherokee 180 for $89/hr There is no Cessna 182 available for rent in the Fort Collins/Loveland/Greeley area currently. Many of our members, even if they can’t average three hours per month, find the increased availability compared to rental aircraft to be a significant advantage to club membership.
