How do televison networks and television shows make money?
Primary revenue for most networks is of course advertising. The network passes this income onto show makers buy buying the shows. In the UK all BBC programming and services are paid for by a licence fee. Some commercial stations have phone in competitions and voting shows which generate income, although there are legal issues with that in the UK at the moment. Shopping channels obviously have a different method!
