How do teenage runaways survive on the street?
I work with homeless people in Australia. Teenagers will usually find other homeless youth in the cities. They tend to gravitate to the same places and end up in groups. They stick together for security. They usually get food at shelter or from vans that regularly distribute food in areas where the homeless gather. Sometimes they steal or get food from the garbage. Sometimes there are community places they can go to wash their clothes but more often they can’t wash their clothes. Sometimes men will take girls into their homes for sex. Most young girls on the street will be sexually assaulted at some time. In short, it is scary and unpleasant in many, many ways.
