How do teams and individuals qualify for Nationals?
The national championship field is limited to 32 teams per gender. Teams have the opportunity to qualify through the championship meet for its respective conference, Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) or unaffiliated group. For each gender, each conference and the A.I.I. receives 1 automatic berth per 6 teams participating in postseason, 2 berths per 12, and 3 berths per 18. Conferences with fewer than 6 teams are considered “unaffiliated” and grouped geographically by the National Administrative Council.
