How do tape style receipt printers work?
The receipt printer is a device just like any other printer. Typically for RetailEdge systems we recommend that these printers be USB printers. These devices are typically easy to install and most new computers come with many available USB ports. Also if you purchase a new computer in the future, traditional parallel (LPT1, LPT2, etc.) and serial ports (COM1, COM2, etc.) might not be available. However, POS printers are typically more expensive as USB interfaces (but this is changing). RetailEdge can print to a parallel or serial receipt printer if you decide that is the configuration you want. If you are not planning on using RetailEdge, you should check with your software vendor about hardware compatibility requirements.
