How do suspenders work?
Suspenders are a simple device made of fabric with a few snaps and adjustable buckles. By cleverly attaching to a pair of pants and then looping over the wearer’s arms, suspenders become a substitute for a waistline. ▪ If you have a waist, why wear them? Well suspenders have often been worn as humorous accessories for people who would like to be taken less seriously. Bozo the clown, Robin Williams (in his earlier days), and Larry King all wear suspenders for this reason. However the most important reason for hockey players to wear suspenders is because they don’t want their pants to fall down. ▪ Isn’t that what a belt is for? Indeed when playing forward, I prefer to simply use a belt and no suspenders. However as a goalie, I have always worn some form of suspenders. The reason for this is simple.
