How do super delegates work?
Superdelegates are appointed by the party. Governors, Senators, people the party deem important enough to wield some power in the party. Superdelegates comprise 796 of the 4049 total delegates (19.66%). They are “at large” delegates, casting their individual vote for whomever they want. This is why Washington State already has delegates counted. Republicans have “unpledged” delegates who are elected (mostly) at the State and Local levels and are not required to support a candidate. Most however do. There are 463 unpledged out of 2380 total delegates (33.55%).
