Students complete certification requirements at the secondary level by majoring in an academic subject of their choice and obtaining a certificate that allows them to teach at the secondary level. Students major in an academic department other than Education and complete a sequence of professional education courses. Furman has certification programs in the following areas: biology, chemistry, physics, English, mathematics, and social studies. Certification programs in languages (French, German, Latin, and Spanish), music, and physical education allow students to certify in grades K-12.
